25/11 – MALNAD ULTRA (IND)

Introduction
The first Indian event on the Asia Trail Master Championship calendar remains on the ATM calendar for the last weekend of November. Malnad Ultra welcomes runners from across the continent to run in the heartland of Indian coffee at elevations ranging from 800m to 1500m above sea level.

The 7th edition of this event, one of the country’s biggest trail events -if not the biggest -, takes place in the Western Ghats region of southern India, the routes on offer will be 100 km, 50 km and 30 km, whereby the two longest categories offer ATM Championship points.

Race course
The main course is a 50 km loop, which the 100k participants need to run twice. The 2023 route will see a number of amendments to be revealed in due course. The details of the route can be found on Trace de Trail here. The cut-off time for the 100K is 20 hours. The route is indeed considered very runable, but can be considerably more technical should there be rain.

Logistics
Coming from outside India you need to fly in Bengaluru Airport (the city previously known as Bangalore). From there, there is a car or bus journey of approx 6 hours to the event area. Malnad Ultra is a proper trail adventure in a remote location, please be aware and be prepared. Accommodation is mostly in the form of local homestays. ATM fans can arguably best compare the event with Cordillera Mountain Ultra in this sense.

International runners are recommended to contact the event organisation beforehand to check available transportation options from Bengaluru to Attigundi. They can help you plan your itinerary, local travel and accomodation in groups.
