Cultra 2023 is the most technical race in comparison to all my other races I have participated in so far. Although this race is tough, my feet – especially my toes – feel great. I am wearing Kailas Fuga EX 2, and it is my first time wearing this shoe for race.

I have been hurting my toes in all my trail races these past 2 years, and no jokes, it happens in every races. I was extremely bothered with my black toes problems, and it’s a relief for me now after experiencing Kailas Fuga EX 2.

Kailas Fuga EX 2 is a super comfortable shoes to wear during my Cultra 2023 race.

The lacing system is my favourite – Kailas calls it their AWS 3.0. That stands for Adjust Whole Sole. It is called AWS because it has two buckles, one for the forefoot area and one for the midfoot. The second cinch point focuses more on a variable toebox, which is a great help to me. I found it very helpful on the hilly trails where my toes would usually bump into the front of the shoes. I was also initially very worried about the steep declining tarmac path after CP5 – BOH Guard House, the AWS setup prevent my toes from getting battered on steep downhills. It’s very different from the experience I had wearing other shoes while running downhills at BTH, where I basically have to be mindful of how I place every foot forward to minimise the pain.

It provides plenty of security, zig-zag overlays for lockdown, and a quick-lace system. The quick-release hook on one side of the top eyelets. This was much appreciated and saved me lots of hassle trying to wriggle my feet into or out of the tight quicklace system.

It hugs my foot so well in the heel and my midfoot yet leaves enough space in the toebox for the comfort of my toes. I never had to worry about heel slips as the rearfoot has a really firm hold.

The sturdy materials provide sidewall protection against errant and jagged rocks or roots. The fabric offers loads of rugged all-mountain protection without feeling stiff or bulky.

The Vibram Megagrip outsole is durable and grippy as expected.

I am looking forward to Kailas gear introducing shoes that have the feature of Kailas Fuga DU’s broad base that provides better stability and Fuga EX 2’s comfortability.
